Show Division
It is important to bring together individuals of the rat community for a day of fellowship and to get an idea of the quality of rats that are on the table in each of our breeding programs. Many fanciers, both breeder and pet people, come together for these bi-yearly occasions set in the spring and fall. This gives us a chance to catch up with one another and enjoy the company of others who share the same love of rats that we do. Additionally, we get to view and guage the rats of different breeding programs and are afforded the opportunity to better our own programs by learning from others. NIRO and the Rat Fanciers of the Lakes (RFL) have an extensive showing affiliation in which we share points and titles under the United Rat Standards Affiliation (URSA). We breed toward and show according to the United Rat Standards, a set of standards written by members of both clubs through extensive research, personal experience, and teamwork. While these shows are fun and exciting for everyone involved, safety of the rats is our top priority. We uphold a strict pre-show quarantine (or isolation) in order to do our best in keeping all rats safe when attending these events. In the links above you can view our Pre-Show Isolation rules which explain in great detail what is expected of each exhibitor.
